Christian LaCroix fashion designer opens first US store at Caesars Palace Las Vegas in the Forum Shops. Almost 20 years after having asked Elizabeth Garouste and Mattia Bonetti to join him in the design of the couture salons at the Faubourg Saint Honore, Christian Lacroix, himself the designer of the Petit Moulin Hotel in Paris, has now worked with the Kreo Gallery on the concept of the first Christian Lacroix designer fashion store in the United States, opened August 14, 2006.
The Caesars Palace Las Vegas Forum Shops store will launch the new store concept to be extended to all of the label’s points of sale. It combines contemporary design with Baroque style, and juxtaposes the elegant luxury of the Faubourg with the wild nature of the Camargue, Christian LaCroix’s native land — all in the inimitable style of the “harmonious dissonance” that drives his creations:
From behind a great window is a totem of terracotta, blown Murano glass and Swarovski crystal. It bears all of the house codes, the recurring symbols LaCroix’s work such as the sun, the passionate heart and the color red. The putty-colored cement walls are veined in gold and mercury run-outs, while the composite floors are a mix of Provencal tomette floortiling, wood, slate and thick wool carpets. Contrasting with minimalist metallic furniture are hand- carved vitrines and baroque consoles created from an original 18th century piece that Christian Lacroix fashion designer himself found in Arles. In lieu of traditional accessories display cases, a personal touch is added through women’s jewelry boxes and men’s curio boxes in quarter cut Lolo, Wenge, Ebony and Elm. To provide a unique and luxurious experience as one slips into a Christian Lacroix design, the fitting rooms are designed in an artful composition of hand-made decorative lighting and furniture, antiqued interior trim and hardware, and doors in 19th century French urban design.
