Silva thinks his jiu-jitsu skills can beat anyone in his weight class. Chris Leben and Rich Franklin UFC fights were both stopped in the first rounds. This fight in the Mandalay Bay Octagon was no easy match against Travis Lutter.
Lutter wanted an early takedown in this non-title UFC match but with Silva’s swift feet he made his moves effortlessly. A flying knee happened moments later with Lutter blocking, who got the takedown of the Brazilian. This was the first time in his Ultimate Fighting Championship time that Silva fought off the attack and stood back up. The mighty Texan then pulled him down again. Silva then fought back from the bottom. One minute remaining, Lutter took side control and a full mount. Silva took the beating by Lutter and regained his strength standing back up. The crowd’s cheers were loud.
The second round Lutter opened with a takedown and Silva kicked to the head from the mat. Silva used a triangle choke on the hurt Lutter. The Ultimate Fighting Champion used both hands to pound away at Lutter. At the 2:11 mark Travis had to tap out.
