In its ninth year, the Great Santa Run has established itself as an iconic local charity event, with thousands of red-suited supporters flooding the streets for a 5K run and one-mile Kris Kringle Jingle walk, each December.

Opportunity Village kicked off registration for the 2012 Las Vegas Great Santa Run with a “Christmas in July” opening ceremony on Thursday, July 19.  The rollercoaster platform at New York-New York was filled with Santas riding reindeer (a.k.a. the rollercoaster at New York-New York), hanging out with Mrs. Clauses (festively clad Vegas showgirls) and even receiving presents (the “World Santa Challenge” trophy!). Yes – Christmas was in the air.

Treasure Island Las Vegas made a ship of gingerbread, with Santa Claus waving, took first place at Opportunity Village’s 18th annual Magical Forest Gingerbread House Village competition earlier in December. The ship weighs nearly 50 pounds and took more than 30 hours to build for the charity.
