Cheick Kongo, 2-0 in the UFC since making his Octagon debut in July, wants to add another KO to his record when he battles unbeaten Carmelo ‘The Fury’ Marrero, who brings into this heavyweight showdown a 5-0 record.
With a Ultimate Fighting Championship spectacular TKO win over Matt Wiman in May, Fisher wants payback for his Miletich Fighting Systems teammate Jens Pulver when he faces Dan Lauzon, the brother of Pulver’s recent conqueror Joe Lauzon. Update: UFC 64 Winner Silva with TKO over Franklin.
UFC 64 Ultimate Fighting Championship World Middleweight Champion Rich “Ace” Franklin returns to the Octagon to make his third title defense against the seemingly unstoppable UFC newcomer Anderson “The Spider” Silva. With a history of vicious striking and devastating knockout power, Silva has quickly become the most dangerous contender in the mma UFC middleweight division. Franklin, who remains undefeated in the UFC, will put his belt up for stakes when he squares off against Silva in the main event of the Ultimate Fighting Championship organization’s UFC 64: UNSTOPPABLE taking place live from Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center Saturday, Oct. 14.
Also announced will be the return of the lightweight crown to the Ultimate Fighting Championship organization. Kenny “KenFlo” Florian and Sean “The Muscle Shark” Sherk will face off at UFC 64 to battle for the vacant lightweight crown, which has been held only by former champion Jens Pulver. As demonstrated by recent pay-per-view events, the UFC has a number of talented lightweights competing in this division, including the return of Jens Pulver as well as Melvin Guillard, Spencer Fisher, Joe Stevenson, Mark Hominick and Yves Edwards.

UFC 63 Ultimate Fighting Championship organization, from Las Vegas, HUGHES vs. ST. PIERRE THE REMATCH is taking place live from the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim real estate Saturday, September 23, 2006. The UFC announced that the time has come, and that the two fighters will square off again, with the welterweight crown at stake. With one second left in the first round, nearly two years ago, a young Canadian fighter named Georges “Rush” St. Pierre found himself locked in an armbar, losing a mma championship title fight to the now legendary Matt Hughes for the then vacant welterweight crown. Ever since that day, and because of the tremendous athleticism and skill displayed during that fight, UFC Ultimate Fighting Challenge fans all around the world have waited for these incredible athletes to face each other, once again, in the Octagon at UFC 63.
“I’m pleased to announce to UFC fans all around the world that UFC Champion Matt Hughes, pound-for-pound one of the strongest and most experienced fighters in the UFC, and Number One Welterweight Contender and Canadian Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre, one of the most athletic and well-rounded fighters in the UFC will be the main event championship title fight at UFC 63 live from the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim Saturday, September 23,” said Dana White, UFC President.

Chuck Liddell winner of UFC 62 Ultimate Fighting Championship with TKO of Renato Sobral. There had been talk on the part of Chuck Liddell’s opponent that so much had changed in the nearly four years since their last matchup in 2002, that it would be a grave mistake to expect a similar result.
Renato Sobral had entered his rematch with the UFC Ultimate Fighting Championship’s light heavyweight champion last night on a 10-match winning streak, but walked away from the Octagon in the same fashion as Liddell’s previous five opponents — the victim of a brutal knockout.
With the sort of relentless punching display that has carried him to the apex of his sport, Chuck Liddell scored a technical knockout over Renato Sobral just 1 minute 35 seconds into the first round to retain his title at UFC 62 Ultimate Fighting Championship at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

UFC 62 Ultimate Fighting Championship tonight between Chuck Liddell and Sobral at the Mandalay Bay Events Center Las Vegas. Defending UFC champion Chuck Liddell, 36, has 18 wins, 11 by knockout.
Chuck Liddell could be dabbling in other ventures. There is the accounting degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo collecting dust somewhere and a soft-spoken demeanor outside the octagon that betrays his proficiency inside of it. But an office job would have never sufficed for Chuck Liddell, who will defend his 205-pound title tonight against Renato Sobral at Ultimate Fighting Challenge UFC 62 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center Las Vegas. After all, it would have wasted his best asset: a devastating right hand that has sent a procession of the top names in mixed martial arts spiraling to the canvas while vaulting him to the top of the sport.

World Fighting Alliance MMA Rampage Jackson win over Matt Lindland. The Los Angeles Forum hosted about 8,000 people, I saw Jason “Mayhem” Miller choke his opponent into submission, then show love to his followers (he dubs them “Mayhem Monkeys”) by shouting: “Woo-WOO!” I saw a Dutch man with a Spanish nickname — Bas “El Guapo” Rutten. “El Guapo” means handsome, and when the bald-headed Rutten was asked where he ranks among the fighters, he said: “The best-looking one, that’s for sure.”
Finally, in Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s split decision victory over Matt Lindland in Saturday night’s main event, I saw one of the most amazing feats of strength I’ve seen in sports. With Lindland trying to choke him into submission, Jackson was somehow able to get to his feet and toss Lindland off. When asked in the ring if he’d be down for a rematch, Jackson said: “As long as I get paid. Cha-ching!”
As Jackson explained, “A lot of people in my sport are crazy. You’ve got to be crazy to get locked in a cage.”
Among the faces in the crowd: Shaquille O’Neal and Bruce Willis. O’Neal, in town to fulfill his duties as a reserve member of the Los Angeles Port Police, said he was in his hotel room when he heard about the World Fighting Alliance event and decided to come over. O’Neal likes to consider himself a martial arts expert, well versed in his own discipline of Shaq Fu, but he said you won’t find him in the ring.
If you’ve heard of mixed martial arts — in which everything short of eye-gouging, rabbit punches and kicks to the groin are legal — you’re probably familiar with UFC Ultimate Fighting Championship, which pulled an almost $3-million gate and $24-million pay-per-view haul for an event at Staples Center in May and is selling out the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. One sign that mixed martial arts is gaining legitimacy is that one of the most familiar faces in boxing, Marc Ratner, whom you might remember from the Mike Tyson hearings, left his job as executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission to become Ultimate Fighting Challenge vice president of government and regulatory affairs.
