UFC 67 ALL OR NOTHING Ultimate Fighting Championship fight between Anderson Silva vs Travis Lutter in Las Vegas, on February 3, 2007. Lutter both disappointed mma fans in Las Vegas, Nevada real estate by being overweight at the weigh-ins and his second round submission to “The Spider” with 3-0 and 18-4 overall.
Silva thinks his jiu-jitsu skills can beat anyone in his weight class. Chris Leben and Rich Franklin UFC fights were both stopped in the first rounds. This fight in the Mandalay Bay Octagon was no easy match against Travis Lutter.
Lutter wanted an early takedown in this non-title UFC match but with Silva’s swift feet he made his moves effortlessly. A flying knee happened moments later with Lutter blocking, who got the takedown of the Brazilian. This was the first time in his Ultimate Fighting Championship time that Silva fought off the attack and stood back up. The mighty Texan then pulled him down again. Silva then fought back from the bottom. One minute remaining, Lutter took side control and a full mount. Silva took the beating by Lutter and regained his strength standing back up. The crowd’s cheers were loud.
The second round Lutter opened with a takedown and Silva kicked to the head from the mat. Silva used a triangle choke on the hurt Lutter. The Ultimate Fighting Champion used both hands to pound away at Lutter. At the 2:11 mark Travis had to tap out.
Winning the “The Ultimate Fighter” reality tv shows fourth season Lutter was guaranteed a title shot but lost it by coming in at the weigh-ins one and half pounds over the middleweight limit at 186.5, now at 12-4.
Heavyweight Croatian star Mirko Cro Cop made his much anticipated UFC 67 debut and delivered in style for his fight fans, stopping Eddie Sanchez in the first round.
Pride Fighting and K-1 organizations had Cro Cop in their ranks as a superstar fighter. He immediately landed two strong left punches and a kick as he eluded lunges from Sanchez. Mirko threw punches and eventually a hard and loud left high kick to Sanchez.
Sanchez looked like a newbie and kept moving backwards as Cro Cop moved forward with bad intentions. Sanchez was amazed by Cro Cop with a high left kick at 1:35 remaining, and his follow-up put him on the mat. Cro Cop quickly fired in the mounted position, while referee Steve Mazzagatti wisely pulled the 32-year old off his foe at the 4:33 mark.
Cro Cop win give him a 22-4-2. Sanchez dropped to 8-1.
Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson’s highly anticipated UFC debut, after his stellar success in Japan’s Pride Fighting organization, didn’t happen with one of his UFC slams, but used his punches, knocking Marvin Eastman in the second round of their light UFC heavyweight bout.
The Memphis native made his walk into the UFC Octagon with his trademark howls and the Las Vegas crowd roared. The fans didn’t ramp up again until the final minute, when Jackson finally used his hands to jar Eastman twice, first with an uppercut and then a left hook.
In the second round Jackson moved in strong, landing four right uppercuts to the jaw sending Eastman down hard to the mat. Referee John McCarthy quickly stopped the fight at the 3:49 mark after Rampage’s follow-up.
Jackson improves to 26-6 while Eastman falls to 13-7-1.
