Summerlin Seals Team Places First In State Swimming Competition

Summerlin SwimmerThe Summerlin Las Vegas Seals placed first in 46 of the 64 events in the 2006 Southern Nevada Recreational All-Stars swim competition, moving the team to first place, and its second consecutive win, in the annual challenge.

The swimming team in Summerlin Las Vegas also placed first in other competitions this year against the city of Las Vegas and the city of North Las Vegas, solidifying an undefeated record this season.

“Our small, young and relatively inexperienced team has grown significantly in four years,” coach Mike Armstrong said of the team’s last-place holding in the competition four years ago.

“The growth, both in the size of the team and in performance, has surpassed my expectations. It is rare for a new swim team to experience such tremendous success when competing against other well-established recreational programs throughout the valley, but we did it. We’re exceptionally pleased with the team and this year’s amazing season.”

What originated with only 26 swimmers has grown to a team of 138 members ranging from 5 to 18 years old. The Summerlin Seals frequently practice at The Trails community pool in Summerlin Las Vegas during the season, which runs annually during the summer months.

The swim team is one of many programs coordinated by The Summerlin Council, the non-profit arm of the Summerlin Community Association that oversees the programming of the community’s amenities.

Summerlin Las Vegas, near Red Rock real estate, is developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties Inc. Summerlin real estate is a 22,500-acre master-planned community located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley.
