Treasure Island Wins First Place In Gingerbread House Competition

Treasure Island Las Vegas made a ship of gingerbread, with Santa Claus waving, took first place at Opportunity Village’s 18th annual Magical Forest Gingerbread House Village competition earlier in December. The ship weighs nearly 50 pounds and took more than 30 hours to build for the charity.

The ship itself is made from traditional Austrian dough, the steps are made of chocolate, the windows are gumdrops and even St. Nick is a sugar creation. Snowy icing gives the creation a perfect winter and holiday look.

The Magical Forest is a major fundraiser for Opportunity Village, a nonprofit organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities. Its gingerbread contest draws competitors from across the city, and Treasure Island Las Vegas is honored to have taken the top spot.

The ship is on display at Magical Forest through the holiday season and a duplicate ship is on display at Treasure Island’s Buffet until New Year’s Eve Day January 1, 2011.
