The contract between the owners of the race and the City of Las Vegas will be discussed and possibly voted on in Wednesday’s meeting.

Part of the agreement requires the city to make a one-time contributing to the event of up $500,000 for street improvements.

Indy Car RacingPromoters expect the three-day crowd to total 150,000 and bring in more than $70 million to the local economy.

“It’s technology, it’s competition, it’s high power,” said Steve Johnson, President of Champ Car Series. “It’s sleek and sexy - it really fits what Las Vegas is all about.”

“I really believe this will generate, as Councilman Ross says, terrific revenues,” said Mayor Oscar Goodman.

The 2007 Las Vegas race will be the season opener for the Champ Car Series and will be held on Easter weekend.

Promoters estimate the race will also create about a 1,000 jobs. Source: KVBC News
