World Series Of Poker Champion Jerry Yang Won $8.25 Million With $225

World Series Of Poker WinnerWorld Series of Poker champion Jerry Yang won the $8.25 million championship this week in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Wednesday, Yang won over 6,358 poker players over 11 days at the Rio Casino.  The final table of players of eight started Tuesday and finally ended 16 hours later.  Yang started out strong and had the chip lead within two hours of play never letting go of his stronghold.

Can you believe Yang’s total investment was only $225 for the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, Nevada real estate?  That’s what this 39 year old Laotian immigrant from Temecula, California did for his entry into this competition.  He learned his skills from inside the American Indian casinos in Southern, CA.

The $10,000 entry into the WSOP no limit Texas Hold’em tournament world championship was performed at a satellite tournament in Pechanga Casino by Yang.

Runner up Tuan Lam and Yang played heads up for about two hours.  At this point Yang has a pair of eights with Lam going all in with an ace queen.  The flop gave Lam a pair of queens.  The other two were a nine and a five.  A seven was the turn card and the river card was a six making Yang the poker championship winner.

Many referenced Yang as “Jamie Gold Junior” because Jamie Gold held the chip lead in the WSOP tournament for 70 percent of the poker tournament last year.

In the tournament’s first 153 hands Yang won 60 pots.  When he entered heads up play with Lam, his lead in poker chips were 4 to 1.

By 6 p.m. Tuesday, five of the nine final table’s players were eliminated.  Over seven hours the other four players played 107 poker hands.

Alex Kravchenko, was the sixth player eliminated by three eights Wednesday at 1 a.m.  Raymond Rahme was eliminated only two hands later when Yang received a pair of aces.  Yang was aggressive with several all in calls.

Second place Lam took home $4.84 million.  Third place was Rahme with $3.048 million and Kravchenko won $1.85 million for fourth place.

This WSOP tournament had 54,288 registrants in 55 events.  This was the most in its history.  Player entry fees raised a total prize pool of $159.8 million.  The World Series of Poker brand is owned by Harrah’s Entertainment.  Harrah’s received six percent on the world championship event.
