Komodo DragonRare Komodo dragon shows up at Mandalay Bay’s Shark Reef in Las Vegas.  This dragon is one of 75 within the U.S. and the Giant Pacific octopus has also made the Shark Reef its home at the Las Vegas, NV hotel.

The Komodo is a fast runner even though it weighs 87 pounds.  It can reach a top speed of 12 miles per hour.

It is known for its long forked tongue and small little eyes.  It enjoys resting on a warm rock at the Shark Reef.

The aquarium is celebrating its eighth birthday and welcoming new guests for visitors.  The 7 foot dragon will wow visitors looking for a rarity and something special in the desert.    The plans for this addition have been in the works for some time.

The other 2,000 animals that call the aquarium include jellyfish, sharks, stingrays and piranhas.

ForeclosuresThe diet of the dragon is three pounds of rats per week.

There are approximately 4,000 remaining of the Komodo dragon and it is an endangered species.  It is a very unique animal in that it doesn’t have a known predator in the wild.

The rare animal has scaly skin, long claws and forked tongues.  It’s mouth contains about 50 bacteria strains and when bites a victim will use the bacteria to disable it.

It is suspected that Chinese traders sailing in the waters of the Indonesian islands discovered the huge lizards.  The natural habitat of the dragon is Komodo island and a few nearby islands.
