UFC Fight Night at The Pearl theater in the Palms Hotel Las Vegas real estate on April 5, 2007 has amazing lightweight mixed martial arts fighters Melvin Guillard and Joe Stevenson for the main event. Stevenson showed his strength with a 27 second submission win over Melvin “The Young Assassin.”

It was Stevenson who landed the first left hand blow on the fierce striker stunning Guillard. This opening is what he needed as he brought Guillard to the mat with a guillotine choke, which ended in a submission victory.

Stevenson was nervous about Guillard’s ability and the outcome could have been completely different.

Joe Stevenson with this victory is a UFC Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight at 3-0, overall to 32-7. Melvin Guillard is now at 39-7-3.

The highly anticipated Thiago Tavares lightweight upped his record to 15-0 with a shutout decision in three rounds over Naovuki Kotani 17-6-5. The final scores were 30-27.

Kenny Florian, UFC lightweight contendor, in the Spike TV opener, showed a third round submission victory over Dokonjonosuke Mishima. The last time he was in the ring against Sean Sherk where he lost.

Florian had gone five rounds with Sean Sherk when he lost to a unanimous UFC 64 decision.

Despite Florian having the fight secured the pace slowed and he kept the pressure on. Mishima used a kneebar almost swaying the Octagon bout. Florian escaped Mishima’s last stand sinking a guillotine choke with 1:03 left remaining.
