CineVegas 2008 Film Festival starts today at the Palms Las Vegas Hotel. This is the 10th year of the festival which runs until June 21, 2008 in Vegas.

The festival features near 90 films in nine days. Tonight the world premiere of “The Rocker” by Rainn Wilson at Brenden Theatres at the Palms Casino. Tom Hanks and Colin Hanks film “The Great Buck Howard” will premiere on June 21. Live questions and answers or tributes to Don Cheadle, Rosario Dawson, Viggo Mortensen, Sam Rockwell and Anjelica Huston.

James Caan will be honored and given the CineVegas Film Festival inagural Vegas Icon Award.

For four years Big Ed Deline was on the NBC TV show “Las Vegas” as the head of casino security for the Montecito. Caan would have rather done a movie, but they were rare during those years.

Eight years ago he was Kirsten Dunst’s father in the movie “Luckytown?”

Sixteen years ago he was the in “Honeymoon in Vegas” with celebrities Nicolas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker from “Sex In The City”.

Over the years, Caan has created some friendships within Las Vegas including Steve Wynn, Dean Martin, Don and Jeffrey Soffer, real estate developers building the Fontainebleau Las Vegas resort.

CineVegas wanted the award to go to someone who embodies the spirit and been in films about the city. The first person that meet the criteria and came to mind was James Caan.

June 20 at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas, Caan will attend the award ceremony for his award.
