Visitors Flying Into Las Vegas Via McCarran Airport Fell 15 Percent
Visitors flying to and from Las Vegas via McCarran Airport fell 15.2 percent to 3 million passengers in February 2009. During February 2008 there were approximately 3.6 million. The decline is equal to the amount of passengers during two busy weekends in Las Vegas, NV.
This February 2009 had one less day to compare because Feb 2008 was a leap year. Because of one less day there was a closer to a 12 percent decline.  It still doesn’t paint a rosy picture.
Compared to January the passengers in February increased 11.3 percent. The same months during 2008 only had a 6.9 percent increase.
The airlines most impacting air travel in and out of Las Vegas, Nevada all showed declines. The worst decrease of passengers with 394,477 arrivals and departures or a 34.5 percent decline was US Airways.
Other airlines including American Airlines had 160,793 or down 2 percent: United shuttles 207,107 arrivals and departures or a 9 percent decrease: Delta had 172,517 passengers or down 14.5 percent and the leader, Southwest Airlines had 1.2 million or down 9.3 percent
International seats available coming into McCarran International Airport increased by 2 percent.
For the first two months of 2009, there were 6 million arrivals and departures through the end of February. This is a slowed pace of 15.4 percent from 2008.
