Update 1/01/2009. Robbie Maddison completes Red Bull “New Year No Limits” daredevil jump.

Las Vegas this year has decided to take the fireworks from atop the Las Vegas casinos and bring them down to the ground with Red Bull: New Year. No Limits.  Not only are the fantastic fireworks going to be shot off from the ground but two world class athletes will attempt a history making long distance jump with a motorcycle.  That’s not all.  Rhys Millen, New Zealand native, will attempt a spectacular stunt of becoming the first person to complete and land a off-road truck backflip, something he didn’t get to finish NYE ’07 due to an accident.

The best viewing location will be in front of the Paris Las Vegas hotel across the street from the Bellagio hotel.  He will jump his bike more than 120 feet high and land on the top of the 96-foot-high and 40-foot-deep replica of the Parisian Arc de Triomphe.  Madisson’s jump will be simulcast live on the internet at  The events will also be shown live on ESPN following the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.

During the New Year’s Eve Red Bull 2007 event, Maddison achieved a Guinness World Record motorcycle leap of 322 feet, 7.5 inches over the distance of a football field.  The jump is expected to be more spectacular with a finish off of the Arc and freefall 50 feet below on New Year’s Eve 2008.

Millen’s motorsports credibility is unsurpassed. He was the 2005 Formula Drift champion and Pikes Peak International Hill Climb world record holder, 2008 Red Bull Drifting World Championship winner and lead stunt driver in several commercials and movies, such as Tokyo Drift, Fast and Furious and the Dukes of Hazzard.
